Event and Bidding Support

The Portopia Exposition of 1981 ushered in a new era for Kobe City, transforming it into one of Japan's foremost convention cities, offering various services to a variety of international conventions.
With the full support of companies and business organizations in and around the city, the Kobe Convention Bureau has mobilized its accumulated track record and experiences to launch “Meet in Kobe”, an attractive services package campaign for convention organizers and participants.

Event Support

*01-07 are provided only to conferences that have been approved for the Portopia '81 Memorial Fund Subsidy (up to 3 items can be selected). Please contact us for detailed conditions.

Bidding Support

This support exists for the purpose of attracting conferences to Kobe. It does not apply to projects that have already selected Kobe as the host destination. For further information, please contact the Kobe Convention Bureau.


Subsidy from the Portopia '81 Memorial Fund(The subsidy is limited to 5% of the total expenditure for the subsidised project.)

International conferences Type A Up to 5 million JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Held in Kobe.
  • 2Organized by a nonprofit body.
  • 3More than 300 participants, including more than 100 international participants.
  • 4Participants from 5 or more countries/regions (including Japan) and 100 or more international participants.
  • 5Duration of 3 days or more.
  • *For international sessions accompanying domestic conferences, only those that can demonstrate proof of the international session via promotional materials such as posters, websites, programs, etc. are eligible.

International conferences Type B Up to 2 million JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Held in Kobe.
  • 2Organized by a nonprofit body.
  • *For international conferences, there must be 20 or more participants from at least 2 countries/regions including Japan.
  • *For international sessions accompanying domestic conferences, only those that can demonstrate proof of the international session via promotional materials such as posters, websites, programs, etc. are eligible.

Subsidy for domestic conferences, etc.(The subsidy is limited to 5% of the total expenditure for the subsidised project.)

Domestic conferences Up to 2 million JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Held in Kobe.
  • 2Organized by a nonprofit body.
  • 3Nationwide conference with 1,000 participants or more (half of participants must be from outside the city).
  • 4Duration of 2 days or more.

Subsidy for staging expositions

Exhibition Up to 500,000 JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Exhibitions held for the first time in Kobe City.
  • 2Exhibitions with a venue floor space of 1,000 m2 or more.
  • 3Held over two or more days including the preparation days.

Subsidy from the Tsutomu Nakauchi Foundation

International and domestic conferences

Established with the aim of attracting conventions to Hyogo Prefecture, including Kobe City, this foundation provides subsidies for international and domestic conferences and loans to cover the costs of preparing to stage these conferences.
* Dual applications can be made with the Portopia '81 Memorial Fund and other subsidy systems for domestic conferences, etc.

  • 1 Submission of applications (Applications must be submitted by October 31st of the year prior to the subsidised project.)
  • 2 Notification of subsidy approval.
  • 3 Consultation on services.
  • 4 Provision of services.
