Event and Bidding Support

The Portopia Exposition of 1981 ushered in a new era for Kobe City, transforming it into one of Japan's foremost convention cities, offering various services to a variety of international conventions.
With the full support of companies and business organizations in and around the city, the Kobe Convention Bureau has mobilized its accumulated track record and experiences to launch “Meet in Kobe”, an attractive services package campaign for convention organizers and participants.

Event Support

*1-6 are only provided to international conventions that fall under categories A and B (up to three can be selected). Please see the below Bidding Support section for applicable conditions.

  • 06 Sightseeing bus charter fee assistance
  • 07 Provision of Kobe promotional videos and images / Public relations support for holding public lectures, etc.
  • 08 Tourist information / Introduction to Japanese cultural experience volunteers
  • 09 Introduction of Kobe’s unique experience programmes
  • 10 City information pamphlets for sightseeing, eating and drinking, shopping, etc.

Subsidy from the Portopia '81 Memorial Fund(The amount of the subsidy is limited to 5% of total costs.)

International conferences Type A Up to 5 million JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Held in Kobe.
  • 2Organized by a nonprofit body.
  • 3More than 300 participants, including more than 100 international participants.
  • 4Five or more participating countries.
  • 5Duration of 3 days or more.
  • * In the case of international conferences, it must involve more than two countries, including Japan, and have more than 20 participants.
  • * In the case of international sessions that are an integral part of domestic conferences, it must have a total of more than 20 participants, including more than 10 overseas participants.

International conferences Type B Up to 2 million JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Held in Kobe.
  • 2Organized by a nonprofit body.
  • * In the case of international conferences, it must involve more than two countries, including Japan, and have more than 20 participants.
  • * In the case of international sessions that are an integral part of domestic conferences, it must have a total of more than 20 participants, including more than 10 overseas participants.

Subsidy for domestic conferences, etc.

Domestic conferences Up to 2 million JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Held in Kobe.
  • 2Organized by a nonprofit body.
  • 3Nationwide conference with 1,000 participants or more (half of participants must be from outside the city).
  • 4Duration of 2 days or more.

Subsidy for staging expositions

Exhibition Up to 500,000 JPY

Applicable conditions

  • 1Exhibitions held for the first time in Kobe City.
  • 2Exhibitions with a venue floor space of 1,000 m2 or more.
  • 3Held over two or more days including the preparation days.

Subsidy from the Tsutomu Nakauchi Foundation

International and domestic conferences

Established with the aim of attracting conventions to Hyogo Prefecture, including Kobe City, this foundation provides subsidies for international and domestic conferences and loans to cover the costs of preparing to stage these conferences.
* Dual applications can be made with the Portopia '81 Memorial Fund and other subsidy systems for domestic conferences, etc.

Services for Organizers

  • 1 Submission of applications (All applications must be submitted by November 30th of the year prior to the conferences concerned.)
  • 2 Approval of the convention.
  • 3 Consultation on services.
  • 4 Provision of services.
